First mate

You asked me to find you in the future

You said that once I became captain of my own boat, that you would be my first mate

We were young then, just starting our lives

And I guess I’m here now, sitting in a lawn chair in the rolling ocean

And you’re the pilot of your own plane, flying drones in the desert

How do I ask?

I’d sail around the world for you, blue lawn chair and all

But

You never asked me to stay for you, so I’m not sure I could ask for you to move for me

How do I ask?

About Me

An English diarist and naval administrator. I served as administrator of the Royal Navy and Member of Parliament. I had no maritime experience, but I rose to be the Chief Secretary to the Admiralty under both King Charles II and King James II through patronage, diligence, and my talent for administration.
