What would you have been like, if we had met when you were younger?

You pat my knee and encourage me the way my older, wiser friends do… but I know that look in your eye

That look that says you would’ve loved me differently if we had met each other at the right time

That look that could’ve perhaps been hungry, could have sought me out in more ways than one

But time moves on

And we Didn’t know each other at that time when things “could have been”

And so I accept your brief hug, your sage advice, your smile

And I hope it’ll lead me to someone who’s ready for me now.

About Me

An English diarist and naval administrator. I served as administrator of the Royal Navy and Member of Parliament. I had no maritime experience, but I rose to be the Chief Secretary to the Admiralty under both King Charles II and King James II through patronage, diligence, and my talent for administration.
